Winthrop survives again by the slimmest of margins

Saturday afternoon, another wild and crazy finish–but it wasn’t a last second shot that decided the first Big South semifinal.

Rather, it was a missed UNC Asheville shot from 5 feet, followed by a brief rugby scrum and a horrible tipped pass with .2 left on the clock.  The result–an 80-79 upset win as Keon Moore led the charge with 20 points, four three-point baskets.

The other games early on were double digit blowouts, Vermont over New Hampshire to kick off things in the America East.  Meanwhile, Iona beat up on Rider in the MAAC and Davidson knocked off Southern racing off to a very early lead in the Southern Conference.
