Jordan Gathers keeps St. Bonaventure alive, Illinois misses by six inches

Jordan Gathers hit only one shot all day.

That was, until the final buzzer.  Three times in the last 38 seconds, St. Bonaventure and top seed St. Louis duked it out in a fight to the finish, ala a welterweight championship boxing match.

The Bonnies made a three, then the Billikens made another three to tie it.

An amazing ending, and just like in 2012–the Bonnies are still alive with a chance to earn a ticket to the Big Dance.  Next up, Dayton vs. St. Joseph’s–both teams squarely on the fence.  Which one can stay on the longest?

Another near upset again in Indianapolis.  Michigan scored a basket with just over seven seconds left.  John Groce called timeout with 3.9 seconds left, but Tracy Abrams drive to the basket fell six inches short at the buzzer and Michigan escapes by one point.

Next up for the top seeded Wolverines, either Nebraska (another bubble team entering conference tournament play) or Ohio State.

More to come later, if more upsets take place.
