New record set for 9 seed beating an 8 seed in terms of margin of victory

The 77-48 final wasn’t much of a contest.

Had the old CBS exclusive rules still be in existence, most of the country wouldn’t have seen the game.  But it was only on TBS, so I guess some of the country was spared the agony.

Here was the record that Pitt broke in one respect, along with the margin of victory from back in the day:

30 points, 2011:  No. 8 Michigan 75, No. 9 Tennessee 45

29 points, 2014:  No. 9 Pittsburgh over No. 8 Colorado

24, 2003:  No. 9 Purdue 80, No. 8 LSU 56

23, 2005:  No. 9 Mississippi State 93, No. 8 Stanford 70

23, 1998:  No. 8 Rhode Island 97, No. 9 Murray State 74

23, 1992:  No. 8 Louisville 81, No. 9 Wake Forest 58
