East Coast fans hoping that the Big Ten Conference’s postseason tournament for longer than two seasons were dealt a crushing blow of sorts on Thursday.
Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany announced that the 2019 and 2021 tournaments will take place starting a few days before Selection Sunday at the United Center in Chicago, while the 2020 and 2022 tournaments will rotate back to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
According to multiple broadcast and online reports, the 2018 tournament more than likely will be held at Madison Square Garden in New York. Nothing has been confirmed, largely because the Big East still holds their tournament there and would largely conflict on the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday of that particular week in March. Another possible venue is the Barclays Center across the way in Brooklyn–but that venue is booked with the Atlantic 10 postseason tournament and later this decade, the ACC will play games over six consecutive days.
Just like everything else, Rutgers fans will have to keep waiting.
