Kentucky gets scare at Georgia, moves to 30-0

Song Selection:  R.E.M., either “The One I Love” or “(I Am) Superman”.

Senior Night at Athens, Georgia and the Bulldogs nearly pulled off the upset of the century.  But a 25-8 run by the Wildcats in the last nine minutes simply proved to be too much.

The final score was 72-64, but it felt a lot closer for most of the 40 minutes.  Kentucky’s depth again was clearly superior on this night, as the Harrison twins combined for 28 points.  UK’s 30 straight wins becomes the second longest streak in SEC conference history.

A thriller amongst the two oldest military institutions

The post-season tournaments began on Tuesday, and the only thrilling contest in the bunch occurred in the Patriot League.

The Army Black Knights led in key parts of the second half at Annapolis, but the Navy Midshipmen made the hustle plays and pulled out their first conference tournament win since March 2001 winning 56-52.

Next up for the Middies, a trip to Colgate on Thursday night.

In the other games…

Holy Cross ran out to a huge lead and clearly dominated Loyola of Maryland, as a date with top seed Bucknell awaits on Thursday.

In the Horizon League, Detroit and UIC both advanced with wins.

One major score of interest, as Georgetown upset Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse by a score of 60-54 to pull the Hoyas even with the Bulldogs for second place.  Both Butler and Georgetown hoping to get a second seed to avoid a possible showdown clash with Villanova at MSG next week.

Two more conferences tip off on Thursday, please look for those key details in the morning.  Please have a good night.
