2005 NCAA Tournament Redux, West Virginia train kept on rolling

Kevin Pittsnogle was a rather cool basketball player during his time spent with the Mountaineers.

At around the same time Arizona and Oklahoma State staged an epic battle in the Allstate Arena (Rosemont, Illinois)…this Sweet 16 encounter saw the 7 seed in West Virginia met up with Bobby Knight’s Texas Tech Raiders (that year seeded 6).  Along with sharp shooter Mike Gansey, Pittsnogle displayed the whole repertoire underground at The Pit in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This matchup was one of the most unlikeliest at the time the brackets came out–and you will see why in this edition of an NCAA Tournament flashback:

Sadly, the Mountaineers would lose due to a barrage of three point shots courtesy of Francisco Garcia and the rest of the Louisville Cardinals the following Saturday to claim the West Regional.

The final two flashbacks will take us to the affluent north Chicago suburb simply known as Rosemont, Illinois and the rather comfy confines of the Allstate Arena.

At that year’s Regional Final, there were three games that turned out to be instant classics.  See you all tomorrow–same bat time, same bat website for the cool rundown.
