Arizona led mostly from start to finish as UCLA’s offense really couldn’t get on track as the Wildcats stunned the Bruins 96-85 at Pauley Pavilion Saturday afternoon.
Alonzo Trier scored 15 points in his first game of the season after being tested negative for any PED’s in his system. Multiple broadcast and online reports out West may have had him take a trace of the drug, but thankfully he has a clean bill of health. UCLA fans chanted “Steroids” every time he touched the ball, and to me–in front of a nationally televised audience and the presence of one of the all-time greats in school history in Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (then played as Lou Alcindor), it simply was not called for.
Bottom line, Arizona’s defense was mostly lights out and the offense made some pretty plays in the paint to get a huge Pac-12 win.
Florida State racks up another win against a Top 10 team
Louisville was the latest to suffer in rain savaged Tallahassee, as four of the five starters for the Seminoles finished in double figures. Florida State held firm for a 73-68 win.
The only other upset of note was in the Big East, as Marquette downed Creighton in a high scoring affair 102-94.
The other top teams all won by double digits, led by Villanova, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Baylor, and Oregon. Gonzaga continues to remain undefeated after easily dispatching Portland at The Kennel.
More to come later in the week. Please stay dry and healthy, everybody.
