At the Big South Conference tournament Thursday afternoon, Chris Clemons lit up the scoreboard and set new records for the school and the conference with a whopping 51 point effort as Campbell (16-16) upset 81-79 over co-regular season champion UNC Asheville.

This game featured 11 ties and 11 lead changes.  Asheville was leading 67-61 when Clemons hit a 3-point shot, converted on a 3-point play the old-fashioned way and later on hit another trey all in a span of two minutes to put Campbell up for good 70-67 with 3:14 left on the second half clock.

Things got tense in the final minute when Clemons, who by this point scored 26 points in the second half and 18 straight missed a free-throw with 14.3 seconds left.  The Bulldogs raced down to the other end but saw MaCio Teague’s long distance attempt go awry and they fouled Marcus Burk.  His two free throws made the score 81-76.

The final points came on a Raekwon Miller trey with 1.5 seconds to go and then a foul was called against Shane Whitfield of Campbell.  Whitfied missed on the 1-and-1 attempt and the full-court heave was not even close at the buzzer.

Next up is a Friday semifinal date with either Radford or Liberty.
