J.J. Redick, Duke’s All-Time Leading Scorer Retires from the NBA After 15 Years

Tuesday’s Announcement Coming from His Instagram Account

Just one day after coach in waiting Jon Scheyer picked up his fourth five star prospect in 7’1″ center from Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, Dereck Lively II and the third five-star commitment for Duke in the 2022 class and the third top-10 prospect to commit to the program since July (joining Dariq Whitehead and Kyle Filipowski), J.J. Redick retired from the NBA. He was the 11th pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, who played for six different teams, the last of them being the Dallas Mavericks.

His college numbers still jump off the charts.

Take a look at these stats:

Parade High School All-American

2006 Player of the Year (shared with Adam Morrison of Gonzaga)

Three time All-American, two time Consensus All-American

Naismith Award Winner

Two time ACC Player of the Year

Four time All ACC Player

Averaged 19.9 ppg during all four seasons

Shot 40.6 percent from three-point range (3.3 made per game out of an average of 8.1 attempted)

Holds the record for most career 3s (457) in ACC history

Second-leading scorer all-time in ACC history, behind Tyler Hansbrough from UNC during the early 1990’s, while hitting double digits in 122 of 139 college games played.

At the time of his graduation, Redick left the Blue Devils with practically every offensive record in school history: scoring, made 3s, free-throw percentage and the most 20-plus, 30-plus and 40-plus point games ever at Duke.

Three-time All-American

Holds the record as the all-time leading scorer for Duke

On Feb. 2, 2007, Redick’s No. 4 jersey was the 13th Blue Devil to have his jersey retired.

He still hosts the podcast “The Old Man and The Three”. You can find it on Spotify, Apple Music, and wherever you get your podcasts. Definitely will be one of the all-time greats in college basketball, certainly in the 21st century.
